A proud mother's story

My son is 15 and had a new friend over yesterday. a real sweet kid ... well after dropping him off , my son Proudly proclaimed
"you know he's gay mom" "oh you know I don't care about that" I responded .. to which he said " Yeah but mom now I can say I have a gay Friend" Beaming with a huge smile across his face ... I told my son that he should invite his friend who is new to the Bay Area from Arkansas, with us when we go places this summer.

My son has done many things to make me proud, this is just the latest.

yours in solidarity

I remember when I was 15... And how hard it was when 'friends' began to distance themselves from me for no apparent reason. Then to find out the rumors had made it to them.

I am so heartened for kids who are comfortable today coming out at such an early age. Sure, it has its issues, but times are definitely better, and getting more so every day.
