I asked what property a 17-year-old Illinois resident was likely to have in Kenosha, and pointed out that young Mr. Rittenhouse had crossed a state line with his rifle to shoot people. No reply yet. I'm not holding my breath.

He was fleeing and from the videos there are decent arguments that each person he shot were attacking him. The crowd was destroying property as well, so it was not a peaceful protest.

It will come down to if showing up armed to something like this negates the normal right to self defense, is he inherently an aggressor simply by being armed and present?

It also will matter a lot what transpired that led to him trying to run away. This will go a long way to proving or disproving that his intention in coming there was to shoot people. The videos of earlier with him stating that he was there to defend property might end up carrying some weight if nothing else can be found.

This is going to be a very ugly case, i wouldn't want to begin trying to predict the outcome based on what we know right now.
