Even if we believe---and I do---that Biden/Harris will prevail on November 3rd,

will our democracy survive until January 20th?

There is much talk---here and elsewhere---which assumes as a "given" that Trump will do or say ANYTHING to stay in power.

Do we mean it?

If we do, must we simply allow him to do whatever he chooses to do, no matter who or what he destroys? Are we truly powerless to end the ongoing criminality that this madman insists is his special right?

The remedies our system offers for aberrant psychopaths likely Trump include only impeachment or removal per the 25th Amendment. But, no one ever dreamed that a single political party which represents a minority of Americans would be as shamelessly corrupt and disloyal and these Republicans and so they never dreamed that anything more than those powers would ever be needed. They were wrong.

And so, I close by asking again: are we truly powerless to do anything more than wait for the election and hope for the best?

Can't you imagine several R Senators who lose in November being willing to go along with the Idiot in Chief's challenge to the election results? Mitch? Tillis? Ernst?

I can.

I am betting the number of deaths won't be small either. I hate to write this, but I foresee plenty of unprovoked mass shootings, as Americans have become very, very good at such things. I wouldn't be surprised to see blue areas targeted. I am 100% serious, and I'm not saying I "think" it will happen; I am absolutely EXPECTING it.

I'd love to see him impeached again and thrown out, and criminally charged, in record time!
But sadly, we are stuck with him for now. Our democracy, bruised and battered by fascists and evangelicals, is struggling to survive. We are not powerless, but our power rests in voting him out or impeaching him again.

Of course there's abundant rumor and speculation out there on many scenarios.
One is that he plans to flee the country, after the election before his term ends.
Another scenario I dread is his appealing to the supreme Court.

I do like the idea of a Democratic Congress and Senate impeaching him on January 4th, no witnesses, just guilty and gone. Highly unlikely, but hope springs eternal!

On Nov. 4 Trump will be a lame duck president no matter what the outcome of the election. If what we've seen over the past four years is any indication, with him knowing that he was going to face another election, can you just imagine what he and his administration would be willing to do when they no longer have to pretend to give a crap what anyone thinks?

As a lame duck, he is sure to be as destructive to this country and its institutions as possible. The only real question is whether he will have two months or four years to do so.

I think he’s got it covered.

Having said that, we need to all be mindful, but we don’t know how it will play out. Again best to be mindful without going thru so many scenarios..it’s an unknown

...will have ZERO to do with either keeping him in or removing him from the White House building. They are apolitical. Trump holds a political office — look to Congress.

I hope this addresses the fantasists on both ends of the spectrum — though I realize that the nature of being a fantasist is to be resistant to facts.

I would feel even better if the head of the Secret Service would make a similar statement.

After that, we’d only have to worry about Eric Prince, aka the Pretorian Guard.
