Election Day law in my little shithole country

Every citizen of voting age is allowed three hours off work not including her/his lunch hour to vote. This does not apply to persons working on shift systems that begin after 10.00am*

*because polls open at 7.00am

info to everyone.

Early voting starts September 24th.

With early voting you do have to show ID. But, you have literally dozens of voting places to choose from in the city.

You don't need time off work if you have more than a month to vote.

days and weeks for it is the best.

Periodically the suggestion is raised the Election Day be a national holiday, which is a terrible idea for lots of reasons. Not the least is that people who work in things like retail would find it not possible to get to a polling place. Especially if there is no early voting and Election Day is the only day to vote.

I live in a state, NM, that makes early voting incredibly easy. I've decided I will be voting in person at the local county fair grounds. There are essentially never lines there, and if I see a line I can always return another time. Plus, everyone here is wearing their masks.

In the DC area stores have huge President's Day sales. They aren't going to give that up. I can just about imagine the Election Day Blowout Sale! that will happen if Election Day were to become a national holiday,

As someone who never worked a normal office job, I get very frustrated at how office workers don't seem to understand what it's like to do shift work. You want to get on an airplane on a holiday? Be grateful the airlines stay open. You want to go out to eat? Appreciate the restaurants and all who work there. And so on.

...levers and the curtain with the big handle. There was something very solid and satisfying about the metallic clicking sound the levers made, and the big “thunk” sound the curtain made when you opened it, thereby recording your votes.

About the only place within walking distance is the township hall. The place where I can vote.
