General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsYour opinion about the new Facebook home page. I hate it.
About 2 weeks ago, the new page appeared and I was able to revert back to 'classic'.
This AM, I have the new Facebook page again with no option but to accept it.
I do not like the format. Maybe you know the answer to my question.
My first thought, as I saw that there were no post counts on my groups, was that they want us to click on every group to which we belong.
Is it true that every time we click on a group to read posts, money goes to Zuckerburg and Co?
If so, I will be unfollowing several pages that I might check. If there is no post count, how do we know we are not just adding to the FB coffers when there is no real reason we need to belong to a certain group other than curiosity or general interest. There may be no posts at all..why do we have to check if there is no post indicated.
Between this and the fact that I now have MS 'Bing' that I never wanted, I'm disgusted.(I use Firefox) This old timer is now facing a visit from my computer guru to get rid of 'Bing' as soon as I can put aside the $ to pay him. House visit $125.00! I cannot find a way to remove 'Bing' from my computer. This one has windows 10 and, for the life of me, I cannot find a way to get rid of it and cannot find..if I have it..'system restore'.
Someone please have sympathy for us old timers who have to cope with this baloney.
I guess you will forgive me for my 'Bing' detour but I'm most interested in any FB thoughts you have.
Thanks,
PR

(22,315 posts)manageable. They're trying to match up the desktop "experience" to the mobile one and I agree, it looks like hot garbage on a wide screen. They moved a lot of things at once and it's hard to retrain muscle memory to find what you're looking for.

(43,049 posts)(windows uses them for background stuff) but you can make it so you almost never see them.
Facebook changes? Facebook never has your interests at heart. It's all about the cash flow. I almost never go there, but I have noticed that there is far less activity from my "friends".

(3,483 posts)every single time FB changes something, then a few weeks later...*crickets*.
I switched to the new one weeks ago and it works perfectly and WAY easier for me to copy and post memes and pics and stuff, way way way better.

(25,209 posts)I tried dark mode, but didn't like it.
The rest of the settings are basically privacy and security. Nothing about Classic or anything.
I've gotten used to it, except I really miss being able to view my timeline by date.

(36,445 posts)What I've noticed, is that every time I log into FB, it asks if I want it to save my password. I always say no, but the next day when I log in, it asks again. It knows everything else about mewhy can't it remember that I always say no?
I run a cleaner application at the end of every day. I'm not even sure what all it does, but my system runs better when I use it. It clears my cache & removes internet trackers. Any day that I've logged onto FB, I have tons more trackers than days when I don't go there. I also use a browser by the same company as the cleaning app, & I'm seeing fewer trackers with it, too.

(4,189 posts)You could try saying No to it and then log out of FB and log back in to see if it asks you again. If it does, then it's just the way it is, no real getting around it.

(32,078 posts)Because Facebook sucks. Twitter did the same thing. Their new format sucks as much as they do, as well.
With Bing, are you referring to the search engine? Or, do you mean the Edge browser? If you aren't having need for the hard drive space, I'd just leave it and not use it. It's easy to make Firefox your default browser. Just go to the main menu, click on "Tools", and "Options" in the pulldown menu (or, click on the three stacked bars, and then "Options." Under "General, " there's an option to make FF your default browser right at the start. Just click on the second box under "Startup." You can change your default search engine here, too. Just click on "Search." It gives you a menu of different search engines, including Google and DuckDuckGo.

(5,477 posts)It was written by the guy that did Social Fixer (a really great browser addon that lets you completely customize Facebook to the way you want to see it - but it doesn't work with the new layout - yet).
This forces FB into the old layout. Works very well with Chrome and Firefox - but not for Safari or Opera.

Hope this helps!

(9,442 posts)And it's a nightmare to navigate when you have a community page. It loads sooo slow and there are nonfunctional buttons.
