Residents of states which pay more into the federal government then they get back, I wouldn’t blame you if your states would secede from the US.

And if you did, I’d request political asylum in some other state. I can support myself and wouldn’t be a drain on anybody.

Now, I don’t expect this to happen. But if it did happen, that’s what I would do.

...in net federal dollars or federal dependency. IOW, there's only 5 states that get fewer net dollars from the federal government. (This is a per capita value, so while California has a much higher net negative, their per capita puts them at 41.)
But, would be impossible for Illinois to separate. There'd be no geographic synergism with the majority of other net donors.
