The Trump administration said on Tuesday that it will ban evictions of tenants who are unable to pay rent because of the coronavirus crisis through the end of the year with a broad new order under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s public health powers.

The agency order, the result of an Aug. 8 executive action by President Donald Trump directing the CDC to study the issue, would impose criminal penalties on landlords who violate the ban. Evictions for reasons other than nonpayment of rent will be allowed to proceed.

It's the administration's boldest move yet to head off the specter of mass evictions in the final months before the election as the crisis caused by the pandemic shows few signs of abating. Trump has come under increasing pressure to act ever since a federal moratorium lapsed at the end of July. A $600-a-week federal boost to unemployment benefits — which many struggling tenants used to pay at least part of their rent as the crisis progressed — expired the same week.

It's a ticking time bomb for Democrats to deal with if we win and he won't give a damn about that bomb going off if he wins. He doesn't actually give a damn about anyone else but himself, money and power.

If Trump wins all of these tenants who still can't find jobs or can't find a decent enough one to pay the back rent off will be screwed because Trump doesn't give a damn about people who are poor. They could all be kicked out and homeless and he'd blame them for HIS gross incompetence that heavily contributed to this crisis.I

One thing I've grown to know with absolute certainty over the decades is that Democrats give a shit about the human cost and believe strongly in helping Americans in need with decent safety nets. Goodness knows we'll really need those now more than ever to help us recover from the Trump plague.

and wil backfire on tenants too. A lot of landlords are small time and owe the bank mortgages which they pay with the rent payments. This will just force small players into default and the larger investors will hoover up the foreclosures and probably
raise the rent. Notice that he's just saying don't evict tenants - without writing a check. It's a crock
of shit. I don't believe it's even legal.
