Trump encourages North Carolina residents to vote twice to test mail-in system

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump suggested that people in North Carolina should vote twice in the November election, once by mail and once in-person, escalating his attempts to cast confusion and doubt on the validity of the results.

"So let them send it in and let them go vote, and if their system's as good as they say it is, then obviously they won't be able to vote. If it isn't tabulated, they'll be able to vote,” Trump said when asked whether he has confidence in the mail-in system in the battleground state.

"If it's as good as they say it is then obviously they won't be able to vote. If it isn't tabulated, they'll be able to vote. So that's the way it is. And that's what they should do," he said.

It is illegal to vote more than once in an election.

Even if they managed to pull it off by voting in person immediately after mailing their ballot in, and being lucky enough that the person who gives them an in person ballot doesn’t check to see that they were sent a mail in ballot and did not produce it to get an in person ballot, once their status was reconciled, they would be in legal trouble.

12. In California, I've never been able to vote in person, without surrendering my mail-in ballot.

Years ago, someone canvassed my neighborhood, getting people to sign up for mail in voting. I always liked to vote in person, so for a few voting cycles, I had to surrender my ballot in order to do that. I finally went to the County and got it changed.

Now I've moved to a mail-in-only district because we don't have enough registered voters for a precinct, so I'm stuck. Guess that's okay this year...

it is a provisional ballot until they can confirm the mail-in ballot isn't in the system and has been voided. It's a shitload of hand work, but it's what the fine people at Registrar of Voters Offices do.

In Florida, once a mail in vote is opened, clerks check the voter’s status. If that status shows that they picked up an in person ballot, the mailin ballot is set aside and not counted, then the voter gets investigated for fraud.
