'That's certainly not my approach': Fauci rejects pursuing herd immunity

Dr. Anthony Fauci argued Wednesday that the United States should not pursue herd immunity in its fight against the coronavirus — even as a top White House adviser has reportedly advocated the strategy and President Donald Trump himself invoked it this week.

“We’re not there yet. That’s not a fundamental strategy that we’re using,” Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, told MSNBC.

“The fundamental strategy that we clearly articulate and go by through the [White House coronavirus] task force is to try to prevent as many infections as you possibly can prevent.”

The remarks from Fauci, who had been sidelined from most public appearances for two weeks following vocal cord surgery, come amid Trump’s elevation of a new health adviser, Dr. Scott Atlas.

This may even be true of the vaccine scenarios if they can't substantially improve on that six month number.
