Where is the Principals office in Zoom school?

My newly minted teacher just e mailed that in his first day of teaching he had to discipline a student. Seeing as how there is no principals office he kicked him off Zoom. His offense tried to sign into class with screen name, Barry McCockiner.

Okay. Last night we had our last pre year zoom type meeting. Grades will include attendance and participation which means staying on the call. Getting booted means it will hurt Barry’s grade.

Oh that’s so funny.

A straightjacket?
LOL!
Maybe being disruptive is harder when everyone is doing a solo act, so it won't be necessary.
It's a good question!

A mere, dry admonishment to change his name should have been sufficient with possibly a brief acknowledgement of his wit, which is probably all he was after.

If the kids aren't supervised, they can just drift away from the screen!

For many disciplines, online teaching doesn't work well. For example, teaching violin online has numerous problems. The audio is compromised by two computers and the internet; how does the teacher judge the student's tone? It's visually difficult to assess the angle of the left wrist as it holds the neck of the instrument in 2 dimensions rather than in 3; how does the teacher explain the proper angles?

These and similar issues are found in online teaching of other instruments, dance and other performing arts, visual arts, athletics and other disciplines requiring physical activity.

They can be looking right into your face with 100% engagement as you are open in the background behind their candy crush window.

Anyway, the teacher contacted her mom because her daughter checked in for school online and then left. Turns out she decided that watching tik tick and YouTube was more appealing. 😮

You could require that students keep their video on, but my spouse, who has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses since spring, says it’s not always a great idea, because some students may be ashamed of their home surroundings or their appearance. He takes attendance by seeing who has signed in, and he can log the time they’ve spent if they’ve had to watch a recording of rather class because they are in a different time zone (a number of his students are back in Asia). The real test, he thinks, is how they perform on turning in assignments and final papers, and participate in class. His summer course had 100% compliance on those scores.

Teaching violin via Zoom is not ideal, but it’s certainly better than nothing, you’d have to agree.
