It increases the percentage of people who vote because it is so convenient.

It circumvents the GOP's efforts at voter suppression. The idea of fewer voting locations, broken voter machines, and late opening polling locations are favorite voter suppression methods use by Republicans in Democratic voters areas. If one votes by mail they avoid the voter suppression traps.

You can not hack a paper ballot like a DRE computer voting machine with no paper record .

My guess is they have internal polling showing that to be true as well.

This benefits us immensely.

It is surprising though many on this site don't get it. They are hung up on the issue of stolen mail boxes and dismantled sorting machines and reports of thrown out ballots. I think that is part of Trump's scheme to make people think its not worth the effort if their ballot will just get stuck in the PO or gets rejected.

Now, some people on this site might be particularly dedicated, but most people don't want to crawl trough broken glass to get to the polling place.
A lot of people are afraid to vote in person during a pandemic, and if mail in vote is not available, those people likely wouldn't vote at all.
