they investigated, that it wasn't a police car.

Considering their track record... pfffft
I want to see more investigation on that.

There were injuries, I don't know the level of seriousness.

Also pointed out that the car sped away and either the cops were slow to, or didn't chase it!


I get angry and upset at all of this stuff (and the worse events) anywhere it happens.

But this is my city!!!

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The NYPD on Friday continued to deny that it had anything to do with the car that rammed into Black Lives Matter protesters in Times Square Thursday night, amid reports that the vehicle was filled with pro-police counterprotesters who had received an NYPD escort away from the area.

One widely-shared video appears to show NYPD officers escorting a group of people into the black Ford Taurus, moments before the car plowed into a group of protesters around 8 p.m., injuring several.

A police spokesperson told Gothamist Friday that the Taurus was filled with pro-police counterprotesters who had been asked to leave the area. Officers had ushered the group through a nearby hotel parking lot but "missed the turn," leading them to drive toward the crowd, Gothamist reported.

State Sen. Brad Hoylman, who represents Midtown, asked Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Dermot Shea on Twitter whether any NYPD officers were inside the vehicle, and why police had escorted the group. Hoylman has also sent formal questions to the city and the NYPD ...

... A quick VIN search confirms that the car is a police series vehicle and was originally government-owned, with non-standard specs to match. “This auto is NOT an NYPD vehicle,” the NYPD tweeted this morning, contrary to rampant speculation.

In videos of the incident, the license plate is legible, and only turns up results in two states—as a 15-year-old SUV in Virginia, or as a police interceptor-type Ford sedan in New York which remains an in-use make for the NYPD. However, a CARFAX report shows that it was sold—most likely at a police auction—in 2019, and again in 2020 as a salvage following rear end damage, both to private owners.
