9. I heard Sen. Duckworth tell this story in person.

She had lost her first Congressional election and was the head of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs at the time. She was the keynote speaker at one of our Illinois Democratic Women's conventions in Springfield.

She told the story without hyperbole or self-aggrandizement. She gave all the credit to her crew.
