The virus doesn't care if people want things to feel normal. It's not normal.

(13,593 posts)Um, no. It doesn't. At least not a healthy one. Even young professional athletes, the epitome of young and healthy, who get infected and are lucky enough not to go the ventilator route (maybe even asymptomatic) can often end up with myocarditis and other debilitating chronic diseases that may well last the rest of their lives. This virus can cause havoc in all of the body's organs, including the brain.
And then, of course, there's the issue of these people going elsewhere and spreading the infection even before they have any symptoms themselves.
What you're describing is immaturity and the inability to progress out of the "denial" stage, and that isn't likely to change as long as the daily political freak show treats this as political issue rather than a public health issue. In other words, it will be at least next year before we have any chance of dealing with this pandemic properly.
Everyone shares your desire, ""I want something resembling normal before...," but waiting it out to avoid writing off another hundred thousand lives or more shouldn't be asking too much. If it is, we're all pretty much doomed.
