STATNEWS: 'Carnage' in a lab dish shows how the coronavirus may damage the heart

https://www.statnews.com/2020/09/04/carnage-in-lab-dish-shows-how-coronavirus-may-damage-heart/

Maybe we should think of Covid-19 as a heart disease.

When SARS-CoV-2 virus was added to human heart cells grown in lab dishes, the long muscle fibers that keep hearts beating were diced into short bits, alarming scientists at the San Francisco-based Gladstone Institutes, especially after they saw a similar phenomenon in heart tissue from Covid-19 patients’ autopsies.

Their experiments could potentially explain why some people still feel short of breath after their Covid infections clear and add to worries that survivors may be at risk for future heart failure.

The new study was posted as a preprint on bioRxiv, meaning it has not yet been peer-reviewed or otherwise vetted by a scientific journal. The authors said they felt an urgent need to share their work so others could help them understand the mechanisms causing heart damage and work on ways to prevent or treat it.

"When we saw this disruption in those microfibers, … that was when we made the decision to pull the trigger and put out this preprint,” said Todd McDevitt, a senior investigator at Gladstone and a co-author of the study. “I’m not a scientist who likes to stoke these things [but] I did not sleep, honestly, while we were finishing this paper and putting it out there."

No wonder chumputin wants everyone in US infected!

NOTE: Repost from early morning for exposure. Guessing news is not covering this horrific story. Stay safe, All!

Media should be covering this medical finding instead!

Something around 1/3 of a college sports conference are said to have myocarditis from covid. Young, healthy, super fit college athletes!

I gather what he actually said was that 1/3 of the athletes who were positive for coronavirus showed myocarditis. But now I'm seeing articles saying that was overstated, if only because not all positive-testing athletes were examined for myocarditis.

But it's information like this that shows how misguided the "herd immunity" approach is when we have no information about long-term effects of even asymptomatic cases of the virus.

Denial is their game.

Not sure about the athletes, but I have seen other articles over the past few weeks saying 2/3 or so suffer myocarditis. Makes sense after reading this article.

And this article, imo, makes it clear why chumputin wants everyone in the US to be infected!

I'd lay heavy odds that the average American will never know about this heart complication. Yet they send kids into petri dish schools!

I have ever heard of. That people are sending their kids to school is so horrifying to me. What does it mean that they will be a grade behind if they are dead or so sick they can't really live?

Sane people would just call this a gap year and concentrate on ridding society of this virus.

They used cells grown in culture. So no blood was pumping through the cells. They saw damage to the cells after infection with SARS-Cov-2.

It's the one aspect of Covid-19 that no one wants to talk about, since it can affect even asymptomatic people. Lifelong damage to cardiac tissue means a permanent physical disability and irreversible susceptibility to heart disease, including sudden cardiac arrest, depending on the degree of tissue damage. It's the invisible 800 pound gorilla in the room.

This pleasant woman told me that while she enjoyed visiting the USA, she did not want to live there. I was, however, welcome to come live with her on the banks of the Rhein River.

She didn't have to ask me twice.
