My only question is Why did they only rescue 4 boats?

5. I don't get it.

I was a sailor for 20 years, both power and sail. The weather was clear and calm. How the hell do you sink a boat in weather like that? Did they run into each other? And with all those boats around why did the police have to rescue anyone?

One possibility would be forgetting to put the drain plug in. The start time and 911 call time suggests that is a good possibility. I would suspect there was alcohol involved to amplify the pure stupidity that comes with being a Trumpster or Trumpet.

All power boats have a drain hole in the stern at the lowest point on the boat. It is for draining any water that seeps in past through hull fittings and swimmers entering/exiting the boat. SOP is to remove it as soon as the boat is on the trailer and plug it back in before launch.

However, I saw pictures in another thread that tells me that the wake from a large boat swamped smaller boats. I've seen it happen and was involved in the rescue afterward. It appears that one of 25-30 footers was operating at speed which caused 3-4" wake that broke over the side or bow of a 15-18 footer.

A case of big boat asshole not realizing the danger they pose and frankly not giving a shit.

In Texas there is NO licensing of boaters or requirement for instruction in operation. All you need is a check that doesn't bounce and just like that you're a captain.
