I have a dog board/training business and this man's dog has been coming here for 5 years for daycare and boarding. I have a strict "no politics" policy where my business is concerned. So before the morning rush to get dogs in, I joked with Mr. Yankeepants about asking Mst. Sarge how he feels about being called a Sucker.
Mr. Yankeepants being a vet and respectfully impulsive, asked our man (to my horror) "How do you feel about being called a sucker?
He paused and said "Oh that was in "The Atlantic" It's just fake news" . Mr. YP pressed further and asked basically "How do you square with dotard saying what he said about John McCain?" He trailed off incoherently and got in his car and left.
Mr.YP is in the doghouse for breaking business policy but it was an eye opening moment. The Mst. Sarge is not a sucker for serving this country, he's a sucker for believing in Trump.

(53,012 posts)Is exactly how most of Trump's voters will respond. The fact is they don't care if it's true or not, and it won't affect their votes. They stopped caring about the truth a very long time ago.

I am actually picturing Mr. Yankeepants as being in a literal doghouse at your business, and am getting a great deal of amusement from that mental image.

If the Dear Leader can't make them understand that he thinks that, what chance do us reality-based people have?

This is why they are not to be discussed in polite company

(5,499 posts)Where Norman Mailer argued that we needed more liberals to join the military to keep it balanced. Is argument was that if only conservatives joined the military, it would be out of balance. In hindsight I think he was probably right.
