The president was in Paris in November 2018 as part of the commemorations for the centennial of the end of World War I.
He stayed as a guest of Ambassador Jamie McCourt at the Hotel de Pontalba, a spectacular Parisian townhouse built between 1852 and 1855, which was bought by the U.S. in 1948.
However, the detail of his 'shopping trip', reported by Bloomberg, has not been previously disclosed.
Trump decided that he wanted to take three pieces of art from the house.

(51,584 posts)He'll probably have most of "Lincoln's Bedroom" furniture shipped to Mar-a-loser before then. I hope somebody sweeps the place for bugs, cameras and double checks everything to see if it was replaced with forgeries.
He'll leave the place looking like The Grinch just sripped the whole building of everything but "some hooks and few wires and a crumb too small for a mouse".

The French art-collection episode comes with a curious footnote. After White House art curators examined the pieces Trump brought home, the president was told that the Franklin bust was a replica. He joked that he liked the fake better than the original, two people familiar with the episode said.
The Franklin portrait snagged from Paris was also a copy -- of the one Joseph Siffred Duplessis painted in France in 1785, which was then held by the National Portrait Gallery a mile from the White House."

*I guess we should have known...he loves fakes (look at his wives/daughter as well as his own hair, shoes, skin, etc...even Fake News/Fux Ruse).

(63,221 posts)He is going to loot the White House big time on his way out. In his warped little mind he is "entitled" to a few trinkets to compensate him for the "sacrifice" he has had to make for his term as president.
I honestly hope someone is taking inventory and keeping an eye on our national treasures so that they don't end up as items in the Trump family personal collection. I have no doubt that he and his whore of a wife will pilfer as much as they can on their way out. Not to mention that greedy, bloodsucking family of his.
To be honest, I would almost willing to part with a few things as long as it got them out of there, but it's not my call. Nothing in there belongs to them. It belongs to the American people and it's historic significance is priceless.
