From President Jimmy Carter

September 1 at 7:46 PM ·
CALL TO ACTIVISM
Statement released by former President Jimmy Carter:
"Rosalynn and I are pained by the tragic racial injustices and consequent backlash across our nation in recent weeks. Our hearts are with the victims’ families and all who feel hopeless in the face of pervasive racial discrimination and outright cruelty. We all must shine a spotlight on the immorality of racial discrimination. But violence, whether spontaneous or consciously incited, is not a solution.

"As a white male of the South, I know all too well the impact of segregation and injustice to African Americans. As a politician, I felt a responsibility to bring equity to my state and our country. In my 1974 inaugural address as Georgia’s governor, I said: “The time for racial discrimination is over.” With great sorrow and disappointment, I repeat those words today, nearly five decades later.

Dehumanizing people debases us all; humanity is beautifully and almost infinitely diverse. The bonds of our common humanity must overcome the divisiveness of our fears and prejudices.

"Since leaving the White House in 1981, Rosalynn and I have strived to advance human rights in countries around the world. In this quest, we have seen that silence can be as deadly as violence. People of power, privilege, and moral conscience must stand up and say “no more” to a racially discriminatory police and justice system, immoral economic disparities between whites and blacks, and government actions that undermine our unified democracy. We are responsible for creating a world of peace and equality for ourselves and future generations.

"We need a government as good as its people, and we are better than this."

I agree with them, we must end the racism that has become entrenched in our society, and justice system, economic system, educational system, politics, lies, and disinformation. We are better than this.

An example of nobility and character. I always wonder what he would - or could - have done in a second term. He was robbed. We all were. Especially since we wound up with fucking reagan - and the politics of selfishness and unbridled greed he unleashed, with that slick showbiz actor-trained salesmanship schtick of his.

It tore my heart and gut out when he lost to Raygun. A friend of mine during this time, who was a 15+ year Iranian immigrant and a naturalized US citizen, and owned a pretty good Italian restaurant that ended up going out business in early 81, was in tears.

It was the first losing Presidential campaign I worked as a voting adult. (President Carter's 1976 was my first and a sweet win.)

President Carter has been a shining light for the Whole World since he left office, America's loss was Humanity's gain.

why the Christian evangelical community turned their backs to President Carter and embraced reagan's candidacy like he was the 2nd coming. President Carter is comfortable with his faith and sincere in his commitment to living by its principles.

I guess that was when the republicans and the evangelical community made a pact with their devil.

.....said that what hurt the most was people saying "At last, we'll have a true Christian in the White House", somehow appreciating Ronald Reagan as a better person and Christian. If anyone knows what is in Jimmy's heart, it would be her, and it pained her that people couldn't see his inherent goodness. Evangelicals have been assholes forever.

Their religion is more about judgement, arrogance and exclusion. That's the standard parishioners. The leaders are simply grifters.

Reagan spoke to their paranoia and suppressed prejudices, to their need to feel above someone else.

Carter was pro-choice. Many evangelicals care about nothing else. That's the reason they support trump.

Being good Christians is easier if there are no other religions to distract the masses.
Plus having brain washing specialists like Goebbels, and Goering and the like
will make having everything the way you want a whole lot easier. They understood
that once you got the masses moving all you had to do was point in the direction you
want the violence and it will happen. Once you commit one act of violence on
demand then the rest come much more easily. That's how you get to this place.

"Pick up that rock and break that shop window!"
"Pick up that stick and hit him!"
"Pick up that gun and shoot him"

A slow steady progression to more and more violence...Sound familiar????????
This is what the Republican party and Fox News are doing right now.
The republicans are telling them what to do and Fox News is helping everyone
with justifying it.

Here we are on the precipice of needing the world to set us straight this time.

Watch "A Hidden Life"- very slow moving but in the end worth it.

It's exactly what is happening here...now...in this country. We have Nov. 3rd.
If we don't pull it off then we will be in a racist hell. You think it's bad now....?
Look to history...there is nothing stopping them from trying again...we're giving
them everything they want.

Now I know this is different from me...but....

The answer is already before us....we must be like Ghandi, Martin, Christ...
We must be the one's to stop fighting. Fighting isn't working...we see that right?

Instead of mass demonstrations...peaceful protest...try this idea out.
Instead of masses of people in one area...spread out. Put one person on each
corner with whatever sign you want..the more united the slogans the better.
Cover every corner you can. Start in downtown and fill up the corners.
Have people in reserve to spell those standing vigil. Be there every day.
Change signs regularly. In time we will win one person over and then the next.
WE will be Lightning rods for a world of shit. But soon others will step in.
slowly over time we will wear them down...then we can change their minds.

There must be NO VIOLENCE. Some will be killed. I'm 60 that's enough. I'm
ready if I go today...are you? This might be the only way.

If Gandhi were alive today he would stand with us.
If Martin were still alive he would stand with us.
If Christ were alive today.....A republican would shoot him in the head.

Sorry for that last bit...but you know I'm right.

during some of these years since Dr. King lived and died creating a world of peace and equality for ourselves and future generations. We would have had a government as good as its people and we would never have elected a president who wanted to destroy our democracy, divide the nation and preach hate and prejudice.
