I am acquainted with a gentleman who is a world-renowned voice teacher, opera expert, and singer. He informed me the other day that he had been hospitalized for over three weeks, had nearly been placed on a ventilator, but did manage to fight his way back to life.
He cannot walk more than a block without having to stop, He can no longer sing, his entire existence in life has changed utterly totally and completely. He will be able to judge opera and vocal competitions, but he must needs re-orient his entire way of teaching and communicating.
If all that is measured is the deaths, then the real losses from the Trumpandemic will never be tallied.

(86,532 posts)The premature deaths of all who contracted it. Studies are showing that those who have "recovered" from the worst affects still have serious health issues. And then other studies are showing that even those who don't get "sick" or show no symptoms but test positive also have lung and heart damage.

(86,532 posts)But I think it isn't sinking in with the GP. Seriously, I have explained the lasting affects from even not sick people and still I have to retell several of them. They see people walking around as if there's no pandemic and they decide they aren't so much at risk. It's a psychological condition of normalizing this issue too, such that people lose their understanding of their vulnerability and they seem to be weighing risk with their inflated value of entertainment.

(57,073 posts)That is the fanciest definition of covidiot I've ever read!
I know what you mean, though.
Damned trumputin virus!

(999 posts)To judge this virus without knowing the long term effects of it. It only made sense given how intense it was to suspect there might have been long term damage. Few cared to even research what was the long term prognosis for survivors of the original SARS virus.
It was smart for other countries to do everything possible to stop this virus from spreading among the population.

(794 posts)This study proposes a new understanding of Covid.

Bradykinin hypothesis. We are familiar with the experience of a "cytokine storm" wherein the body over-reacts and does more harm than good in fighting disease. Bradykinin is similar, but causes vascular disease, rather than the accepted view that covid is a respiratory disease.
This explains many aspects of the long term afflictions. I found the study persuasive.
