Donald Trump 'offered Julian Assange a pardon if he denied Russia link to hack'
Julian Borger in Washington and Owen Bowcott
Wed 19 Feb 2020 17.55 EST

Donald Trump offered Julian Assange a pardon if he would say Russia was not involved in leaking Democratic party emails, a court in London has been told.

The extraordinary claim was made at Westminster magistrates court before the opening next week of Assange’s legal battle to block attempts to extradite him to the US, where he faces charges for publishing hacked documents. The allegation was denied by the former Republican congressman named by the Assange legal team as a key witness.

Assange’s lawyers alleged that during a visit to London in August 2017, congressman Dana Rohrabacher told the WikiLeaks founder that “on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr Assange … said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC [Democratic National Committee] leaks.”

1. He got double-crossed by trump and wants revenge.

2. He's sensing an imminent change in the political climate of the U.S. and its interested in cooperating with investigations of the trump administration.

3. He's trying to paint himself as a not-so-bad guy who was kept from telling his story because of pressure from trump admin.

4. He's trying to make himself relevant again.

5. A combination of all or some of the above.

And it could be used as evidence that this administration is acting in bad faith and is pursuing extradition and subsequent punishment simply because he refused to do what they asked in exchange for a pardon.

And a president telling someone to lie for him isn't against the law either if it has no illegal consequences.

It's horrendous but Trump as president has found all kinds of immoral and unjust things to do while avoiding direct legal conflicts.

plus he has screwed up our USPS, and he has McConnell guarding the hen house.

So yes. He can say whatever he wants without fear of public opinion voting him out of office.

He was one of the early McConnells.

This guy wants revenge because his long lasting GOP stronghold, has gone blue.
