I am actively listening to my local and county fire and emergency scanners today and tomorrow, every siren I hear could be the potential for us to evacuate.
I don't know, just feels so ominous...like this freaking year can't get any worse.
Other Californians...check in and let us know how you are!

(46,023 posts)Terrifying. I don't know why people get so worked up about earthquakes. The fires are much more devastating.
I live in the flatlands now, and it's finally cool here. When the smoke and clouds clear it may get hot again, but not 100.
BTW, the smoke from the Camp Fire killed a lady in the neighborhood. She was probably in her 70s and dependent on an oxygen tank she dragged along after her. The smoke finally got her.

(13,355 posts)My house was outside the burn area, but we had our stuff packed up ready to jump...
Svereal friends lost their homes/family homes... the neighborhoods were RAZED to the ground, no distinguishing landmarks to even try to figure out where things were. Very sad.

(20,867 posts)It is cooling off up here today.
Air quality is very unhealthy.
No fires around here but the winds are blowing the smoke in.
Safe here luckily!
I have relatives and friends where you are located.
I think all of them should prepare to evacuate!
Please do so yourself as better safe than sorry!

(46,023 posts)When we went to the shelter because of the Oakland hills fire, the SPCA had a worker there to keep the pets.

(20,867 posts)I'd carefully get the carriers for them and don't let them see you with them. It will frighten them.
Try to keep any carriers or cages that you may have out of site!
I wish you the very best!
Take care!

(7,769 posts)...high winds, lower heat (thank goodness), apocalyptic smokey orange sky, extremely dry conditions, deer and other animals look freaked out.
We are in Lake County at around 1,500 ft.
I've been calling it "the hellscape".
We just returned from being evacuated for over a week.
2020 - Good times...

(13,355 posts)"UPDATE 1:15PM: The Fork fire is 100 acres with significant growth potential according to the USFS Eldorado National Forest. It is located off Wentworth Springs Road and the Gerle Creek access. It is east of of Gerle Creek, sooth of South Creek Rd. Evacuations are in place for Loon Lake, Gerle Creek and Rubicon trail area."
It's not that close to South Lake but with these winds embers can fly far...
