Democratic super PAC to spend $6.2M on Texas House races

Democrats need to pick up nine seats to gain a majority in the Texas House. In 2018, Republicans lost 12 House seats, including four GOP-held seats in the Austin area.

Forward Majority’s spending plan mostly targets GOP seats in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas.

“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish a Democratic majority ahead of redistricting and cement Texas’ status as the biggest battleground state in the country,” Forward Majority spokesman Ben Wexler-Waite said in a statement Tuesday.

There are no Austin-area seats being targeted by the super PAC, but Republicans are eyeing some seats that Democrats flipped in 2018.

Both parties are sinking large sums of money into Texas.

Forward Majority estimated that it has spent nearly $10 million to boost Democratic candidates for the Texas House, far more than the $2.2 million the group spent in 2018 to help 32 Democratic candidates days before the election.
