Election night 2016 I was physically ill.

As the magntiude of the news of trump
somehow pulling a rabbit out of a hat to “win” I became physically ill.

I was in a high state of distress.

I couldn’t sleep at all.

I was having a panic attack.

All my alarm bells in my head were going off.

I knew instinctively that this was a very grave moment for our country.

I talked to my psychotherapist about my reaction. I gradually gained my footing and could function again, but over the last 4 years I always have said “it will get worse.”

When there were “very fine people” carrying torches I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When it became abundantly clear he was a traitor who worked with and for Russia to rig the election I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When he instituted a ban on Muslims entering the country I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When he started putting kids in cages I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When he started putting tariffs on goods and started a trade war I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When the very first inking of coranavirus started in January I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When people were outraged at the killing of George Floyd I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When Russia put bounties on our troops and he said nothing I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

When he called our servicemen and women losers and suckers I said “just wait it’ll get worse.”

With less than 8 weeks to go, as crazy as today seems, as unbelievable as the news is coming in avalanches of revelations and recordings of this pestilence in the White House I only give you this warning.

“Just wait. It’ll get worse.”

Inflicted wounds the MSM is expecting Trump to recover from, I think his fate was sealed 2 months ago to lose this election big time.

I think his handling of covid 19, anti racism protests, and this story about him trashing the troops. I could be wrong this will bring down but I almost certain he goes down in November.

Disturbed that Hillary had lost a couple of states she was supposed to win, but nonetheless thinking I'd wake up to President Hillary Clinton.

My radio goes off at about 10 minutes to 6 in the morning, Mountain Time, tuned to a station that plays the BBC during that hour, and then Amy Goodman and Democracy Now! starting at 6. I could not make sense at first of what the BBC was saying. It sounded as if Donald Trump had won the election, which clearly wasn't possible. As the reality sank in, I felt as if I'd entered an alternate Universe. How I wish I could return to the Real Universe.

...I'll still be thinking "Just wait. It'll get worse."

Because I think Trump knows full well that, the minute he's out of the presidency, he'll be facing a barrage of criminal charges (including state ones that a president can't pardon) that will land him behind bars for life. What's he going to do? Putin won't want him in Russia, once he's no longer of use to them; same with ObS in Saudi Arabia. While there are a lot of countries without extradition treaties with the U.S., I doubt there are any of them that would refuse to hand over a former president wanted by the U.S. for the sort of charges he'll be facing. So, it seems to me that Trump knows his only choice is between the White House (in perpetuity) or the "big house," and will be institute martial law, if necessary, to keep power indefinitely. And, while I doubt the Joint Chiefs would accede to such an order, the military is so packed with ultra-right-wingers, I have no confidence that the average rank-and-file soldiers wouldn't chose to disregard their immediate superiors and follow orders from their C-in-C.

I would have lost my mind. All the protests have carried me as did the midterms in 2018. We are almost there. Let’s keep working!! No one will survive another election night like 2016!

It was horrible, but at least I wasn't home alone watching.
I yelled, cried, talked to others.
