And that includes governors and mayors who will continue to put their citizens in danger - and we know how the deniers and maskholes have reacted, we can't expect a change from them anytime soon, they're way too deep in their denial.

doing what needed to be done. I remember Washington was one of the first to shut down. Ca followed soon after but I think Oregon followed Washington. This was about March 12, and then more and more followed.

But the NJ Gov is right, they might have been more bold shutting down a couple weeks early. Feb 7 was too early for states to be considering.

They got on it pretty quick though once it started going. Feb 29 was the first U.S. death in Washington. The west coast got on the shutting down pretty quick. Actually not shut down. They started with ending 100 or more gatherings then I think about a week later is when people started not going to work. I stopped working about 3/14.

states and cities leaders (who are Dem mostly). I started self isolating and wearing my masks (N95...the real ones since my family ordered them in Feb) on March 1st. I wore the masks and gloves to all my doctors' appointments and my dentist...they all laughed at me too (beginning of March). I have relatives in Italy and my family was in contact with them and they warned us what was coming our way...none of us listened to our govt (including Drs. Birx and Fauci).

continuously until they were raw after a couple weeks. But I was very thankful for our Gov in Or. We had a huge concert and I was getting ready for work, a sold out hotel and I didn't want to go. Between getting ready and making it to work, gov had canceled the concert and cancellations into hotel was massive. That was March 12. I was so relieved when I got to work I was not going to have to deal with all those bodies in a small room.

Life this spring and summer hasn't been all that pleasant or easy, for a long time we could only go out to get groceries, prescriptions or gas. Most everyone is still working from home and masks are required everywhere you go, but we have managed to avoid the worst. *knock on wood*

mandate masks and social distancing.

They fought for the people of their states. They did the right thing.

Trump didn't give a flying fuck who died.

Trump is the reason so many have died in America.

Trump killed Americans. Trump did that.

As well as all GOP in Congress who supported the madman.

There were almost no tests available, and the criteria for using them were so restrictive that they literally couldn't detect community spread, or have any idea what the real prevalence was.

I remember feeling like Asshole was deliberately delaying testing capacity for week after week after week, in order to maximize the chance that the virus would explode into an inferno.

If we had had full testing capacity weeks earlier, as we should have, we would have likely been able to head off the worst of it.

At this point I think it’s proven that any power they have should be removed at any cost. Would Germany let the Nazis try to resurge? Republicans have led to the three most disastrous economic downturns in American history. Their ideas are extremely dangerous and hazardous to American society.

Not quite as completely as parts of Europe, but our infection rates are far below the states around us. Restaurants were allowed to open up partially for indoor dining in June, and then shut back down again less than a month later when cases spiked. Very few schools have opened for in person learning. Most public school districts are remote only at least into October.

And to all who complain about the economic devastation of shutting down, I want to point out the greater economic devastation of large numbers of sick and dead. Indeed, because the death rate is not all that high from this virus, the real long term impact may well be from those who remain sick for a long time or have serious health consequences for the rest of their lives.

I personally know a man who got sick from this at the end of April and still is not well. Not sick enough to be in hospital, but not remotely well, either.

What we should all be concerned with is that there are no effective treatments, not really. Essentially you get well on your own or you don't.

In the long run, this virus is going to change life as we know out profoundly and thoroughly.

I wish I didn't need to wear a mask everywhere in public. But I wear one. And I always cover my nose.

I look forward to resuming the kind of travel I used to do, especially the science fiction cons I attended several times a year.

A few days ago in a phone call with my sister, I briefly brought up the possibility of my visiting her for Thanksgiving or Christmas. While it was left undetermined, my takeaway was probably not. As good as I've been, as good as she's been, why take the chance?

While I miss my only son who lives on the East Coast, at least he's not an elderly parent confined in a nursing home who doesn't really understand why I can't visit.
