All of this news is coming out the same week but will it make a difference or influence any GOP politicians or the cult/base????? Is it too late?

(3,377 posts)we're not targeting them. It's all the other people that are "unsure". I don't think the cultists represent the majority. They are just vocal and peacocky.

(21,842 posts)I'm hoping maybe.

(27,064 posts)The cult will not be moved.
There may be some movement around the very center of the electorate.

(1,023 posts)(Coventina). Thanks, you gave me a laugh.

(26,044 posts)...because, although I doubt it will do much to affect True Believers, if it gets enough media play, it could well have an effect on those few "undecideds" still possibly leaning in Trump's direction because "until this virus came along, the economy was great." And it might even make a difference to those in his base who had a close family member die from COVID-19, but who was inclined to excuse Trump because "no one could have stopped it" and "he did the best he could with the information we had at the time."

(15,026 posts)Whether this influences his base is not the concern.
The better question is, will these revelations inspire more of those who don't like him to go to the polls.

(6,046 posts)They're in a kkkult.

(14,818 posts)I think it really might more some undecideds (hopefully enough!) Especially if they've been affected by covid19
In their circles/themselves.
Journey man also has a good point giving extra energy for all of us already outraged to one degree or another.

(32,710 posts)The books, each one alone, no, but as a continued onslaught of damning reports yes.
Having said that, I think the damage comes from dotard being constantly knocked off his narrative, forced to play defense...which is terrible at! His excuses become thinner and thinner, and then come the conspiracy theories..thugs on planes, men dressed in all black, served up in an interview to fox viewers just this past week.
Will it change his cult, maybe a few around the edges. But it will further harden the resolve of all Dems and any independents left to vote him out.
People are just plain sick of it!!
Enough is enough
MuseRider
(34,095 posts)but I do believe there are people on the edge who will be moved. Each little bit that comes out moves a few more. As long as "fake news" is the rally for them we will have those that will not even believe what they hear with their own ears. This truly is cultish. I cannot think of anyone I have ever supported that could not lose me as a voter if shit like this was going down. It is terrifying. Lets hope there is a lot more that can be released or will be released. We need to peel off as many as possible, it must be a land slide.
Wounded Bear
(58,604 posts)but Trump can't afford to have a few million more folks come out and vote for Biden.
Fyrefox
(300 posts)Trump's base detests science, education, and opinions outside of their own. They are too far gone to be amenable to evidence and reason, and are completely ego-invested in Trump. Even if they're voted out, they'll claim the election was "stolen" or "rigged."

(16,616 posts)Also, there's the cumulative impact to think about.
Fire and Fury by itself didn't get Trump removed, nor did any other single book (not even the Mueller Report) but when you have twelve, fifteen, twenty books I think it seeps into the national consciousness.
And that is also helped by the writers appearing on TV. The "book tour" aspect is an important part.
Most people won't have time for Peter Strzok's book, but they'll see him on TV saying exactly what Comey, Mattis and so many others are saying. I do think, in the aggregate, it can make a difference.

(32,075 posts)the only thing that will change the minds of his "supporters" is a mass cult deprogramming. They love the shit sandwiches he feeds them. They think it's filiet mignon and caviar, and nobody can tell them otherwise.
blogslut
(37,985 posts)The books will probably not affect his base. However, his base is not large enough to re-elect him. His poll numbers have stayed basically the same for 3 and-a-half years. He is not gaining voters.
The hope is the revelations of these books (along with every other horrible thing) will bring voters to the polls to get rid of him.

(10,951 posts)to die of Covid yet told his Mom yesterday that Trump is the greatest president we have ever had.
And he has a college education. You can't fix stupid.
Only a massive turn out the vote for Biden has any chance of changing anything.
