Doomed-to-Fail Senate Vote Will Usher Final Scene on Stimulus

The U.S. Senate is poised to vote Thursday on whether to advance a slimmed-down Republican-crafted pandemic relief bill, opening what’s likely to be the final stage of the months-long partisan battle over fiscal stimulus.

Democrats say they have the votes to block a narrowly tailored bill introduced by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell from even reaching the floor. Once that happens, it isn’t clear whether negotiations might resume, or if lawmakers will leave Washington to wage their November election campaigns without approving a fresh dollop of aid to businesses and workers hurt by the Covid-19 crisis.

McConnell on Wednesday expressed doubt Democrats want any deal, telling reporters they appear more interested in taking their case for a big-ticket relief package to voters. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was more optimistic, saying Republicans are under growing political pressure to get a deal and seeing signs the Trump administration is more open to compromise.

“If it’s defeated, there’s a decent chance they will come back to the table and we get a better bill,” Schumer told reporters Wednesday. “That’s what we’re hoping for.”

I would welcome more help but when I heard McConnell stand up and say would you like something or nothing I could have choked the life out of him. Pompous piece of shit. I hope the Democratic members shove his shit back on him and TELL those of us who need the stimulus why.

He's going through these motions for show? Why? Just to show who's in charge when we all know if there's no relief passed and checks and unemployment supplements for the American people very soon, the public will blame the repugs and with the election right over the horizon, disaster awaits for trump and maybe even Mitch too.

This stingy bill won't pass and McConnell will have to come back to the table and agree to a more generous package or he and his party are doomed in Nov.

To speak more vernacularly: "That Mitch better have my Money."

There are *a lot* of people in this country for whom the economic situation recently became dire. The first couple of months they were furloughed with federal stimulus money and the confidence they would have their jobs back by end of summer. Now those furloughs are turning into layoffs or extended indefinitely, and there's no stimulus money, and they can see the end of their state benefits on the horizon.

Playing around with these people is going to cause fear and rage that is going to splash everyone.
