Trump and the UFO defense.

He didn't want to "panic the public".
It's like those who believe that authorities around the world have proof of alien visitation but keep it secret to prevent the public from panicking. Yet all those people (around 45% in last poll I saw) believe we have in fact been visited and guess what? Nobody is panicking.

The only thing the public was panicking about was when COVID was overwhelming our Health Sytem and Trump offered no leadership.

It also speaks to his complete lack of faith in the American people, he is saying we could not handle the reality of this virus. But of course we could, he couldn't.

Once again, he just said to "create a panic", he didn't mean the public, he meant the stock market Claustrum Sep 2020 #1

He couldn't care less about the people. He just care that the stock market is high so he gets re-elected.

He thought if he could downplay everything, and if people believed him, it would magically go away. He was on the one hand treating Americans like prepubescent children who are incapable of dealing with hard information and on the other, hoping he could manipulate the situation in his favor. He failed miserably. Had he chosen to meet the threat head on, do the hard things that needed to be done, and provide actual calm instead of deception, we might be in a vastly different place right now as a country, and frankly he might have actually bolstered his own re-election chances. He was met with an ultimate challenge and he failed, miserably and due not only to his own inaction and stupidity but do to his narcissistic insistence on trying to control perceptions through lies. This is his "Norman Vincent Peale" bs worldview on steroids. Additionally, it speaks to just how evil he is that he convinced his own freaking followers to believe his nonsense knowing full well that they were putting their own lives at risk while he had the safety of his distance and bubble at the WH and in public appearances. The man is fucking evil.
