Timed with the release of his new book “Rage,” to be published next week, famed journalist Bob Woodward has released recordings of Donald Trump admitting that the coronavirus pandemic will be extremely lethal and could potentially kill hundreds of thousands of people in the United States. Donald Trump told Woodward this in a February interview, when there was still a reasonable chance that thousands of lives could have been saved, had Trump chosen to act in a responsible manner.

Woodward’s newspaper, the Washington Post, reported on the aftermath of these revelations, including Trump’s acknowledgment “that he intentionally played down the deadly nature of the rapidly spreading coronavirus last winter as an attempt to avoid a ‘frenzy’ ….”

16. As a therapist I could not agree more. I wish I had better advice.

It’s incredibly hard to do anything else when you are under assault, when everything in your world is under threat and you don’t know when the next blow will come or what it will be.

All I can recommend is to try to eat well, do creative things, sleep as best you can (good sleep hygiene is important) and do your best to remind yourself there are good people and beauty in the world and beyond. And even that can seem hard not to attach grief to when we’re under existential threat.

Two months. Less. Rise up and strike with everything you’ve got. We’ve survived disasters before. We can do this.

Situational depression is a real and actually pretty normal thing, but it can be ameliorated, and should be if possible. Brain chemistry can be improved, and like gravity, if you can get past that hard initial push, it can get easier. But it ain’t magic. It’s work! 😘
