if were going to survive as a countrySeptember 12, 2020
By Roger Sollenberger, Salon
Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Thursday proclaimed to his audience, which is the largest in cable news, that America must defeat the Black Lives Matter movement if were going to survive as a country.
In the racially-charged screed, Carlson, who once called white supremacy a hoax on the heels of a mass shooting targeting Latinx immigrants in Texas, attempted to cast blame for the deep racial divisions in the U.S. on Barack Obama, the nations first Black president.
The Obama presidency left a wake of destruction behind, according to Carlson. However, the economy gained a net 11.6 million jobs, and the unemployment rate dropped below the historical norm under Obama. Average weekly earnings were up 4.2% after inflation. Fifteen million people got access to healthcare, and premium increases slowed. Renewables such as solar and wind power increased 369%, coal production dropped 38% and fossil fuel emissions declined 11%.
Obamas presidency also turned in results traditionally valued by conservatives. After-tax corporate profits and stock prices both set records, and the S&P 500 rose 166%. Handgun production leaped 207% to a record high, and illegal immigration dropped: Border Patrol apprehended 35% fewer people trying to cross from Mexico.

I see that little pissant is trying to sharpen his white supremacist cred in anticipation of a 2024 shot at the republican nomination.

The depths to which the Rethugs sink on a daily basis is horrifying. I fear for our country.

(22,917 posts)regarding how the way the right-wing equates BLM with a Soros-funded/created, Marxist, nefarious organization pulling everyone's strings.
They refuse to see BLM as a movement and instead are solely focused on the organization; most of the protesters are obviously and quite simply protesting racism and violence against Black and Brown bodies via state-sanctioned violence. Most probably haven't even visited the website. The org and website are handy when people say "What are they asking for??? I'd take them more seriously if I knew what they were asking for" (of course, they wouldn't, because such people look for any excuse to turn away from justice and equity).
I wish I could think of an analogy for something on the right, to impress the point that the VAST majority of people protesting and supporting BLM are supporting a goal, not an organization. It's so much easier to demonize an organization with a few individuals rather than a movement.

(13,142 posts)While the Republicanist minority manages to dominate even slightly in the polls, regardless of the voter suppression and gerrymandering they use to achieve it, their confidence and arrogance will continue to know no bounds. They have to be defeated in the big game and walk home crying losers. Anything short of that, and they'll just stay high-handed jerks and get steadily worse. At some point, they'll be such jerks that they'll just stop playing the big game (democracy) and declare themselves permanent winner. They're getting close to that now.
