So I took the advice of some critics and watched "Cuties"

...and it was the most disgusting piece of trash I've ever seen on TV. There are a couple of scenes that are genuinely nauseating and unwatchable for anyone with young daughters of their own. I honestly don't understand why the makers of this film chose to deliver their message this way. This film is everything its makers claim they're speaking out against.

Please, fellow DU'ers, don't fall into the trap of defending this film simply because the right is attacking it. This is one of those rare instances where both sides should share common ground. It's heinous.

I read today it was a "feminist" film, as much as girl with Tattoo is a "feminist" film. LizBeth Sep 2020 #2

Films made by men that exploit and humiliate women and girls then tell us really, empowering.

Your assessment certainly seems apropos here.

Ordinarily I'd be inclined to give the artist the benefit of the doubt. However, it's difficult if not impossible to accept how someone could film something like this and not recognize the harmful and exploitative nature of what they were doing.
