Are you volunteering for the Biden-Harris campaign?

It's going to take all hands on board to win this election. Don't be lulled by the polls. There are many factors that can determine the election, from COVID to voter suppression, and potential hacking. We need to win by a sizable margin to ensure victory. Elections take hard work to win, and the consequences of a Trump win in 2020 are too horrific to risk. Please join a virtual phone bank in your area, and make calls as often as you can. Yes, it's a pain for many of us, but it's worth making calls a few hours a week to get Trump out of office. Right now calls are directed at helping voters with mail-in and early voting. Please volunteer to help turn out the vote. https://joebiden.com/call/

Note: There are many more people who want to text than call, but it is FAR LESS effective. Please volunteer to make calls.

for all the candidates. Sometimes we call in MN-005, which is my own district of Minneapolis, and other times into MN-001, which leans Republican but has a close congressional race. That is Governor Walz's former district. Calling CD 1 is less fun, but people tend to be polite regardless.

How is it going so far? Which part of the state are you in?

I lived in FL for a bit and volunteered for Kerry in 2004. I did a lot of voter registration before there was a nominee too. Teresa Lapore threw me off the premises of Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections building when I was trying to help people in an outrageous line turn in their registration forms. (I helped people of either party.) She accused me of being in Acorn, which was the first time I had ever heard the name of that organization. Interesting times. 2020 must turn out better.

It’s a little rough. My only experience in campaigning, Kerry in 2004 and Crist in 2014, were all Broward county voters. We are 70 per cent democratic, as you know, so very little hostility in my county against Dems. With phone calls across the state, I’m exposed! I suffer from extreme social anxiety and my stomach churns when I make cold calls. I’ve been told by others that I sound confident so I’m not hurting the campaign. I am forcing myself to do this because I would feel terrible if I did nothing.

Door to door in 2004 and 2014 was more fun. People were less likely to slam a door than to hang up and again, I was campaigning in heavily democratic areas and heavily AA areas.

African American support is strong and friendly. I believe AA like Joe a whole lot more than they liked Kerry or Crist. White and Hispanic are tepid to joe but if they are for us, they are VERY anti-Trump.

Trumpsters surprisingly not too rude but also not ashamed of voting for trump. The shame is gone. (These are No Party Affiliation voters).

I don’t know if calling is doing any good. Most people are registered and everyone has a plan for voting, already figured out. A LOT more support for mail-in ballots than in past elections.

and I so admire that. Turnout in Broward is key. I remember it's being somewhat down in 2004.

I agree about door knocking. I always liked it so much better. You can have better conversations and get to know people a bit. But alas these are different times. Keep up the hard work!

Lots of Caribbean accents! We are doing well with Caribbean-Americans (non-Cuban).

Broward always lags behind. I think Harris as VP will help.

Phone banking has changed a lot. Technology makes it easier to call, to actually reach people and not have to dial a bunch of numbers. It's a whole new ball game. My son is doing it in NY and he's trying to sign me up. However, I'm doing local phone banking with my husband and we've already committed. I might consider doing the national one my son wants me to do as well.

When you sign up to call for Biden, you're also calling for Democrats down ticket. Coordinated campaigns are efficient in that regard. I work through a local organizer I know, but we get the software and script from the Biden campaign, and it will vary depending on the congressional district you are calling. I sometimes do my own district of MN-005 and other times MN-001. You can choose to stick with your own district if you prefer. When people are vote splitters, there are questions down to the state house race, but honestly that's too much for one call so I move through them fast. If you are highly invested in a local race, that might remain the better option for you. In my congressional district, everyone votes Dem. The contests were settled in the primary, so now it's a question of turning out the vote. MN can only go blue with high turnout in Minneapolis and St. Paul, especially Minneapolis.

My husband is on a local ward so our local calls are really local, neighbor to neighbor. These calls for Biden are in swing states so they will be very national in substance. I like the idea of doing both, it keeps the energy flowing and going. Joe's got a sizable amount of cash and nobody has gone "off the reservation" with his people (altho you never can tell what might surface as the repukes get in high gear with their attempted smear jobs).

I guess we all have to stay alert and ready to jump in when needed!

CT is a solid blue state, and neighbor to neighbor calls are more effective, I'm sure. I've never liked calling out of state, but I have done it. MN will be tight this year. It came within 1.5 points of going for Trump in 2016, which shocked me. We will probably have our hands full here.

Someone on a MN for Biden Facebook page said that in her county near St. Cloud, MN, those who openly oppose Trump face threats of violence. That horrifies me.

Dems are the metro (cities, suburbs) party. In MN the suburban districts flipped Dem and the rurals flipped to GOP. Luckily most of the people live in metros. The latest polls there have been good for Biden, but obviously Dems can't take anything for granted.

Trump's 'law and order' fear mongering doesn't seem to be working in MN and WI - looks like Biden successfully refuted this narrative, at least if polling is correct.
