Reading comments on local sites was depressing.

First off they are so mean and angry. They don't just answer. They have to be condescending and sarcastic and basically awful. Lots of name calling.

Second they are so racist. A friend of mine said he is so disappointed that so many of our neighbors are so racist. He thought we were doing better than that.

Third they are so uninformed on everything. They know everything about everything so don't confuse them with facts.

You can't talk to people who are so driven by hate and fear. They are so emotionally involved that admitting they were wrong is out of the question.

They are so in your face, because they enjoy that intimidation, it appears there are more of them than there really are. We are really the silent majority in this election. They are terrifying people into silence which makes it appear they are the majority, but I don't think they are. We will see in November.

My county’s local group (Washington County, PA) is full of anti-mask propaganda, QAnon junk, and just general ignorance. It used to be for stuff like traffic backups and lost dogs.

Need anything and they would recommend anything you need. Suddenly it’s trump train, trump this, trump that. Now it’s just a fight. Terrible.

and it gets twisted into some kind of awful racist or violent topic.

That is really concerning. Sometimes a rock is just a rock but not in their world.

It makes compromise impossible.

They shout fake news and Liberal media. Then go onto citing some random nobody making a video on youtube.

Yeah, those youtubers are so reputable. /s

empathy but not any more.

I just don't want anything to do with those people.

I have a friend I have known for 30 years that has bought into all that stuff. She doesn't care about the world or anything else at this point because she is going to get raptured.

I used to care about her. I just don't any more. I have lost that loving feeling.

The problem isn't that they support Trump. It's their need to talk about Trump and justify their support. My ex-friend never talked about politics before 2016. But somehow, he brought Trump up in the group chat daily even when zero person respond to him. And he is one of the mythical Obama-Trump voter. I've long since left that group because I just don't want to bring Trump/politics in everything I say or do. If I want to talk about Trump, I do that here.

And I never buy the silent Trump voter BS, they are loud and they have a constant need to show their support everywhere.

We can be having a fun time with Far Side cartoons and someone just has to make it about his/her view and do all they can to start an argument.

It gets so ugly.

To them, if you criticize or even question anything Trump has done or said, you've committed blasphemy. And yes, they would be very happy to see blasphemers dealt with in the old fashioned way.

Get in there and speak truth to the lies. Not saying to try to reason with them, just point out facts, include a link. We can't let the cult/rabid right take over social media. I find that when I jump in it inspires other good factual people to join the thread. It's demoralizing when social media bullies take over a platform...I do what I can when I can. Often just a post with facts, no response to any of them...they're there to spew not discuss.
