Delta Flight Returns to Gate, Removes Passenger Refusing to Wear Mask

A passenger who refused to wear a mask forced a Delta flight bound for Los Angeles to return back Saturday evening to its point of takeoff at Metro Airport in Detroit, according to Deadline Detroit.

The airline confirmed the incident to the outlet early Sunday.

"The customer was removed from the plane and the flight departed without incident," said spokeswoman Kristin Seay. "Delta requires masks on every flight for the safety of our customers and crew."

No further details were offered about the identity of the passenger and why they refused to wear the mask, or what happened to them after they were removed from the flight.

I just want to say they have been good about Covid. After the other major US carriers started selling the middle, and packing the planes again, they did not. Delta raised their prices but keep social distancing as best as you can on a plane. They have continued to enforce the mask. They also set up (for an airline) a pretty easy ticket return policy for people who had to cancel. So three cheers for Delta.

fyi I am in their miles program, so I receive emails from them re: covid response. I don't work for, or know anyone who does.

I will toss in there customer service has been excellent to me in the past, but I do frequent flyer status, so your usage may vary.

Someone should tell that hammerhead that the captain of the flight has the legal right under Federal law to kick you off his craft for disobeying an order from the flight deck.

As airlines go they have Taken good care of me and since Covid started they have taken no shit from drumpfers and have permanently banned them from their flights. This is how you deal with fascists and evil persons.

who refuses to wear a mask or does the "nose-dick" thing to receive an instant escort out of the store. Or an epic beat-down--their choice. So fucking sick of these people. The airlines do it right.

After several terrible flights, I was in the "oh HELL no" category with Delta, but this is a huge plus to me.

YUGE.

These people know masks are required, so they are intentionally causing the disruptions. They should be fined and banned from flying ANY commercial airline FOREVER, and they should be charged for the costs associated with the disruption (such as fuel used to return to the gate, and accommodations related to passengers’ missed connecting flights).

17. They should be kicked off the flight while it's in the air.

That would have the effect of being a permanent ban.
