Since further climate change is inevitable, even in the most rosy scenarios for mitigation strategies, it would seem necessary to improve our ability to prevent forest fires, be able to quickly contain them, to limit the damage that they cause.

About 2/3 are cause by human activity (electrical shorts, sparks, arson, etc.). Fire roads and fire breaks help contain fires. Zoning laws keep developments out of the forests.

I'm sure that there are a lot of things that need to be done even if AGW is kept to 2 degrees Centigrade.

....you can't just forest manage your way out of devastating effects of climate change.

Which is what Trump is claiming today, blaming states for the unprecedented severity and frequency of fires, rather than acknowledge the aggravating factors behind the escalating climate events.

You have to have strategies to limit climate change and you have to have strategies to limit forest fire damage so long as the change continues.

There is no IPCC scenario in which the temperature goes back down. https://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2018/02/WG1AR5_Chapter12_FINAL.pdf

...and Trump is actually going to do nothing about either.

No one on the ground or in this Democratic campaign is against effective forest management.

New Deal. Plenty of good jobs can be had and created with a "green" economy.

and what have we done since then? A million band-aids, and no substantive change.

It’s too late, Joe. Tell that truth, at least.
