(51,568 posts)If there were flames coming closer to me and my home I would be thrilled to see that life saving plane's fire retardants. Too bad there aren't more of them.

(9,641 posts)They have used it further South of where I live.
But I have experienced multiple planes and helicopters flying overhead and dropping fire retardant and water.
Where I live, this is a normal experience. Unfortunately.
We did get this a few years ago. On the very first day it was in operation, we had a fire. Got to sit on a fire road and watch it going overhead many times.
It looks like a really big dragonfly!

(9,641 posts)You feel like you're in a war zone when they're all swarming around overhead. But you know they're there to save your life. Firefighters are my heroes!

(9,641 posts)No way to get out. And the sheriff's department mistakenly called for an evacuation, without checking with the fire department. Some people did leave, and they got stuck in the gridlock.
We have a very large pond on the local golf course. That's where a lot of the helicopters go to get water for the water drops. A bunch of us decided that if it got really bad, we would all go jump in the pond. Figured we stood a better chance with that than sitting in our cars, going nowhere, if the fire were to overtake the area.
So we sat on the fire road, drinking margaritas, and watched all the helicopters and planes overhead!
People heard about it later and got mad. Mad that they weren't invited to the margarita party!

(20,568 posts)Brings me back to childhood. We lived not far from Boeing Plant 1 and they would take off the new planes at night to be finished at plant 2. The house would shake and I was never sure if it was the Russians bombing Seattle or another plane almost finished.
Love the sound of those engines!!!
