Pepsi to launch drink to aid sleep

PepsiCo to launch drink to aid sleep as consumers struggle with stress

PepsiCo is launching a new drink called Driftwell that is meant to help consumers relax and unwind before bed. The enhanced water drink contains 200 miligrams of L-theanine and 10% of the daily value of magnesium.

Emily Silver, vice president of innovation and capabilities at Pepsi’s North American beverages unit, said it is the fastest new product to ever come out of the company. Driftwell will be available nationwide on e-commerce sites in December and in grocery stores by the first quarter of 2021.

The enhanced water drink contains 200 miligrams of L-theanine, an amino acid that’s found in green and black teas and some mushrooms. A few studies have suggested that the ingredient can improve sleep quality and can help reduce the physical symptoms of stress. “From a scientific and regulatory perspective, we feel really good about making that claim around L-theanine. Specifically, we have safety in clinical data to prove that it works,” Silver said.

Driftwell also contains 10% of the recommended daily value of magnesium. The drink comes in 7.5-ounce mini cans and just one flavor: blackberry lavender. According to Silver, it’s the perfect size for hydrating before bedtime without requiring another trip to the bathroom.

as supplements if you think you need them.

I don’t even want to know what other crap they will add. Probably lots of sodium.

Because the blue light from electronic devices is what's causing sleep issues. Put down your damn device for a few hours, and you won't need "driftwell."

Have for 4 years. Hmmm. Anyway, I take a sleep gummy/ chewable that contains theanine and melatonin and it works well. Also, a tincture made out of lion’s mane mushroom...once I’ve got that on board, it’s lights out. Lion’s mane also repairs synapses in the brain.

.

While probably OK once in a while, stay away from melatonin supplements as that replaces your body's requirement to manufacture it. Your body will enter a use it or lose it mode, where the more melatomin you take, the less your body naturally produces it. If you don't produce enough naturally, there are plenty of videos online that show you how you can game your body back to creating natural melatonin.

Soft drink manufacturers have been getting Americans all hopped up on sugar and caffeine for decades, now they're going to calm people down? Classic drug pushers - uppers then downers then uppers again! Meanwhile, we have more disposal containers to get rid of.
