Retweet: Voters need to know millionaire Darrell Issa skipped to the front of the line & took a $150k PPP check, while #CA50 small businesses were forced to close forever because of #COVID19!
3 weeks later, Issa loaned exactly $150k to his own campaign...

(16,254 posts)Issa made fools out of Repukes with his constant investigations of Democrats. Did he ever accomplish anything with the hearings? I do remember that Hillary seemed to enjoy his investigations by zinging him every chance she got. Wasn't one of them many hours long?

(6,714 posts)We need to check up on the forgiven loans and see if the recipient reports it as income, especially if this one ends up being forgiven.

(46,791 posts)I thought we were done with him forever. Some people just won't go away.
Meanwhile, Issa was the wealthiest member of congress worth a reported $250 million. What did he need a PPP loan for? And why couldn't he afford to loan his campaign money? These greedy bastards will take advantage of anything from the government, even if they don't need it, but will be quick to cut food stamps or assistance to the poor.
On the upside, hopefully his little stunt will undo his plans to move back to DC.

(8,864 posts)a safe Republican district that elected Hunter even after news of his indictment was released and he blamed his wife.
And Darrell AssI doesn't even live in that district.

(8,864 posts)You don't have to live in the district to be the congressional representative of that district.
It's called carpetbagger.
Definition of carpetbagger: A political candidate who seeks election in an area where they have no local connections.
Darrell AssI, lives in Vista, a north county suburb about 45 miles away from East County district he's running in.
He lives in the 49th Congressional District and is running in the 50th Congressional District.
The population center of the 50th is in the El Cajon/Santee area, about 45 miles away from Vista.
PatSeg
(46,791 posts)And a very wealthy one at that. What I don't understand is the man has everything he could possibly want (or so you'd think), why on earth does he need a congressional seat as well? If he were younger, I'd say he had long range political ambitions, but at 66 and very rich, what is his motivation? Of course, I'm thinking as a sane, rational person, so it is hard getting inside the head of a man like that.

(8,864 posts)back around 2008, when he was the congressman from the 49th district.
He really wanted to be the Governor of California and instigated the Recall of Governor Gray Davis,
so that he could become Governor.
When Ahnold announced his candidacy, Darrell AssI tearfully announced his dropout (crying like a baby),
knowing he could never beat Ahnold. He'll quit instead of losing an election, when the writing is on the wall.
AssI - Issa spelled backwards.
Everyone in the ROV office was surrounding him like he was some celebrity.
He's as smarmy as he looks.

(46,791 posts)In 2008, I can see him eyeing the governor's office perhaps as a step toward president one day, but I can't see any path for him now. Of course, he could probably be another republican who constantly craves media attention and will do anything to be in the public eye. Getting rid of these republicans is like playing whack-a-mole. Whenever you think you've succeeded, either another one pops up or the same ones rise from the dead. They just won't go away!

(20,043 posts)What made the PPP so attractive was that if you spent 75% of it on payroll for your business in the first 60 days, the entire loan was forgiven. To qualify, you had to show records of your payroll over the previous year. With Issa loaning the money to his campaign, rather than covering payroll for a business, he will just have to pay it back. Not only is it stupid, he may have committed fraud.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)If he took the loan, paid employees with the loan, but by doing that saved an equal amount that he could give to his campaign, he could claim that he used the loan properly. I seriously doubt that he will allow an audit of all his (company and personal) bank records.
The thing that irritates me is the guy is (was?) super rich. $150,000 should not be anything for a person that is (was?) worth north of $175 million dollars.
TexasBushwhacker
(20,043 posts)to help keep them afloat and help to keep them from laying off workers. Large companies and companies owned by millionaires have financial avenues not available to small businesses. Those loans should not have been available to someone like Issa, AT ALL.
