Donald Trump says the House might decide the election as he paints doomsday scenario of mass fraud

Source: Daily Mail

Donald Trump says the House might decide the election as he paints doomsday scenario of North Korea forging ballots, mass fraud, results off by 15% and protests which will be 'put down'

Trump said at a White House briefing that 'at a certain point it goes to Congress' raising the prospect of a contested election

The Constitution allows the House to decide disputed elections, where each state delegation gets a vote

The situation could favor the GOP, depending on the House that is elected

The president railed against mail-in ballots, which he said were fraudulent

President Donald Trump railed about mail-in voting, which he cast as vulnerable to foreign interference – and raised the prospect Wednesday that a contested presidential election could be thrown to the House.

He also vowed to squelch any violent protests on Election Day, warning they will be 'put down very, very quickly.

The president exploded about mail-in voting at a White House press briefing after DailyMail.com asked him about his earlier vow to 'put down' any potential violent election protests, which he said would amount to an 'insurrection.'

He then raised the prospect of an election so disputed that it ends up being decided not by the direct vote or the Electoral College, but by the House of Representatives.

'It's not just the counting of the ballots, which, by the way will take forever,' Trump fumed. 'It'll take forever. You think November 3rd? You might not have – I guess, at a certain point it goes to Congress. At a certain point it goes to Congress – you know that,' he said.

The Constitution provides for the House to decide disputed elections, where each state delegation gets a single vote – a situation that could favor the Republicans, depending on the composition of the new Congress.

Although Democrats currently control the House and are likely to keep it, Republicans currently control a majority of state delegations.

Trump unloaded on mail-in ballots, which he describes as fraudulent, even as he defended his own absentee ballot in Florida. Several states use mail-in ballots for their elections.

I know this happened one other time in our history in 1824 when the House decided on "the other candidate" and the one with the most votes wasn't elected

They will do anything to remain in power. It is why we need huge turnout and make it uncontestable.

Even with a big win, Trump will sue and contest the count and it could get tied up in courts for a while, but we will win.

We must win.

If he loses, Trump supporters will go batshit, but nothing like if he manages to steal the election. I prefer them losing, going batshit and paying the consequences because we will have people in power who respect the rule of law. If, god forbid, Trump steals the election (that is the only way he "wins" )they will go batshit without consequences.

It will be one created by this fear-mongering SOB. Trump would love to see a process by which The people of California (39.5 million) would have the same representation as the people of Montana (960 thousand). I don't think that there is any way, if Biden is the apparent winner, that it will not be a "disputed" election.

It is really amazing that we are seeing and open and active process of trying to steal an election from the American people by a despotic President. And yet, the Republican Party remains silent.

i don't like where this is going. betcha the blue-state urban precincts will be getting plenty of attention from Trump's goonsquads patrolling the premises. what's going to happen when one of their "boogaloo bois" sets off a brick of ladyfingers in a voting booth?

make no mistake: election day is their all-hands-on-deck moment. do not underestimate the threat.

definitely safer to vote early and/or by mail, but that's not going to work out for a lot of people

Tilden (D) had received the popular vote, but did not reach 50% +1 of the electoral college because there were 20 electoral votes disputed. Ultimately the Dems and Rep. came to a compromise that gave the 20 electoral votes to Hayes, giving him the presidency. In return Reconstruction was ended and the Southern states enacted Jim Crow laws.

Hayes had lost both the popular and electoral college vote - until congress intervened after southern states withheld Tilden's electors in hopes of a quid pro quo.

Though he (wisely) served for just one term, the Hayes pact ruined Southern history for three generations - and arguably, to this day.

He may be underestimating how quick and easy it would be to "put down" the protests.
