The “Ivy League” isn’t an intellectual concept, it’s an athletic conference. It has eight specific members:

Brown
Columbia
Cornell
Dartmouth
Harvard
Penn
Princeton
Yale

Just being a recognized, top-shelf university isn’t enough. Otherwise, Stanford and many other universities would be part of it.

My very liberal kiddo had many offers including ivies and snotty, expensive conservative schools but chose to attend UT Austin. IMO it's the best among southern schools for the value, ROI and name recognition. Well she saved us a bundle and we're Longhorn fans so was all good.

that one is not Ivy League. That seems to be playing somewhat to the dumb downed voter that views and Ivy League education as a problem. When I was in Engineering school, the main textbook that I used was written by by a Cal Tech Professor and a Carnegie-Mellon Professor, I can promise you that MIT Engineering majors in my field were using the same textbook, because the two Professors were legends in that field of Engineering. My own Engineering Professors were either from Cal Tech or Yale/Princeton, only a handful weren’t. So, I get a little defensive when a politician works to portray as the everyday common man (though I believe that Joe is the real true deal in that regard), all of us that have college degrees have linages to Ivy League schools or high powered schools like Cal Tech through our instructors.

...is his referring to St. John’s as “a Protestant church.” Lots of Episcopalians, probably a majority, consider their denomination to be “reformed Catholic,” deeply dislike being lumped in as “Protestant” (which they connect to right-wing evangelicals), and get really annoyed when Roman Catholics dismiss the Episcopal Church, as has been done repeatedly over the ages, in a derogatory way as “just another group of Protestant schismatics and heretics.” It won’t sit well with some Episcopalians to see a Roman Catholic candidate go out of his way to describe their parish as “a Protestant church” – why not just “a church?”
