Said the polls have been steady for a long time. They may move a point or two, but always settle back. Then he went on to say with no reasoning that we all know it's going to tighten up before the election. ...No it's not going to tighten up, the cake is baked.

You're right in the Baker made an assertion that DOES have historical precedence, but what doesn't also have precedence is the steadiness of approval ratings over the months since Biden has been in the lead and Trump is, well, Trump. So there's really no need for Baker to go there and make that kind of asssertion.
Personally, I think that Trump's approvals will decline more before election day because he'll get more desperate and more shrill and frantic as the election approaches. Folks normally don't like to vote for someone who will be perceived as panicking. It shows no confidence. People don't want to vote for candidates who display a lack of confidence.

(53,769 posts)Oh Barr and trump will try with the report that's supposed to be coming out but everyone is aware of it and prepared to combat it, and also with spring some oppo dirt back at them. Comey's letter was so effective because it was such a surprise.
And Biden will be well ahead of where Hillary was.
