(43,049 posts)Are these the same people blaming Woodward for not saving us from Covid?
Regretting that she was not replaced by an Obama appointee is normal. Not understanding that she would have been another Garland is forgivable. Putting any sort of blame on her is irresponsible bullshit and one sure sign of a troll.

It's nonsense, of course, and it shouldn't be taken seriously. That doesn't mean it's not happening. I can't really condemn them - everyone is pretty stricken at the moment.

(10,499 posts)He was a bigger factor than she was.
Not that I will ever focus on that part of the election. We lost because of James Comey's antics. He dominated that election from start to finish.
Demsrule86
(68,352 posts)enough that she lost.
StevieM
(10,499 posts)1) The belief that Gary Johnson was a non-factor. He took more votes from HRC than he did from Trump.
2) The minimization of James Comey's actions. He absolutely cost us that election, more than all other factors put together IMO. He devastated her three times. First by publicly placing her under FBI investigation in the middle of an election. Then by holding that destructive July press conference. Finally by turning the election upside down at the end when he re-opened the investigation with less than two weeks to go.
Without Comey's antics we would have destroyed Trump. Stein (and Johnson) only made the difference in a close election, which is bad of course. But Comey dominated the election from start to finish. And he deliberately destroyed the once-solid reputation of the Democratic nominee. Nobody is more to blame than he is for Donald Trump's ascension to the White House.

FBaggins
(26,697 posts)... is not "blaming" her.
You can respect and honor her 1000% and still admit that she made a mistake.
She could still be proven right if her passing inspires a rising up of citizens and shames McConnel/Trump away from doing what we all fear they are about to do... but now we can only hope.
boston bean
(36,186 posts)FBaggins
(26,697 posts)But she should have.
That doesn't take one ounce from the weight of what she contributed to the nation (including after that point)... and it doesn't "blame" her. Much more blame goes to those who put Trump and McConnel in the position to replace her. But we can wish that she had been more strategic. Not as much as we wish her to survive another decade or more... but still.
boston bean
(36,186 posts)Why is this in any way her fault?
There is a lot to blame. One thing not to I blame is RBG.
FBaggins
(26,697 posts)She was a giant... but she was rolling close to 80 and had already faced cancer twice.
The second time was pancreatic cancer (which reportedly is what eventually caught up to her) just 3-5 years earlier. Reportedly... the 5-year survival rate for that is about 50/50.
So yes... from the moment Obama was sworn in with a solidly Democratic Senate... there were large numbers of Democratic court watchers who expected her to retire in the following two years (just as there are watchers on both sides who expect Thomas to retire in the next two years if Trump/McConnel somehow retain control).
boston bean
(36,186 posts)FBaggins
(26,697 posts)Which is why you keep getting told that nobody (ok... let's say "few" ) are BLAMING her.
But we can still wish that she had taken advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a well-earned retirement.
boston bean
(36,186 posts)And because she didnt what?
If its not her fault then period it is not her fault.

(7,447 posts)She deserves it, but sorry not going to deify her.
She made a bad choice. So did some Americans in voting for Trump. You can argue more blame goes to the latter and I'm fine with that, but not going to agree that sticking around was a good choice.
boston bean
(36,186 posts)qazplm135
(7,447 posts)You could more blame on the people who voted for Trump so pretty sure that's a pretty blatant mischaracterization of what I just said.

(36,186 posts)A great honor and service she gave to this country.
Blaming her for the place we find ourselves in in this country truly just makes me sick.
Well sorry it makes you sick.
I can hold both the idea that she was great and she made a bad call in my head at the same time.
boston bean
(36,186 posts)Also rubs me the wrong way.
Nothing happening to our country right now is the fault of any decision she made. To say it is, is truly is stomach churning.

(3,514 posts)hindsight is 20/20. Did anybody in 2014 seriously think we would be in this shitshow we are currently living in? If she had waited until 2015 McConnell would have blocked any new nomination (we actually KNOW this for a fact). The world is full of Monday morning quarterbacks. God bless, peaceful passage RBG, and fuck ANYBODY who would blame her for ANYTHING. She fought the good fight. Who could have predicted tRump and the clusterfuck he has brought to America?
