That's how we ended up with Trump in the first place - always backing down from challenging these rabid right wingers.

"Wasting political capital" is DC lobbyist-speak.

How much political capital have we banked over the last 5 years? What can we spend that on? Already safe seats in Congress?

At best all impeachment ever was, was a symbolic sign of resistance.
Without control of the Senate there was never any practical purpose for the impeachment beyond giving our side something to rally behind

Trump's in the history books forever as being impeached for extortion of Ukraine (abuse of power) and obstruction of Congress.

Apparently, we're lucky we even got that.

He's still in power. That is all that matters.

We're favored to win this election, but doing something like that would be one of the few things that might upend that.

Do you have the 66 votes to take him out? If not, this is an awful idea.

History books a decade down the road saying that congress formally accused him of abuse of power doesn't accomplish anything of value.

Being able to pull out a history book, point to a section on Trump and say "that guy was a real piece of shit, he was even impeached" doesn't matter when he's still in the presidential office

The primary intent was to expose Trump, but the vast majority of people picked a side re: Trump long ago, some decades ago. We knew that the Senate was never going to convict. Assertions to the contrary were just wishful thinking.

He just admitted on tape to deception on COVID-19. 200K+ Americans are dead because if it.

Is that impeachable or not?

If your first thought is about an election, you just lost the moral high ground. And Trump loves it. He thinks, "if I'm so guilty, then why didn't someone stop me?" Just like he said about Bob Woodward writing a book instead of raising an alarm.

Trump shouldn't be salivating over a Supreme Court pick, he should have been retaining lawyers for another impeachment defense.

Because what we need right now is a distraction from an election we're poised to win.

What we need is to put our energy into an impeachment process, instead of putting our efforts into electing Joe Biden.

Newsflash: Most people already know what Trump admitted to on tape - and they are not the least surprised. People who don't know what he admitted to on tape don't give a fuck what he said or what he's done - they're voting for him anyway.

Starting a second impeachment process - which takes time and effort to put a case together - will only come across as desperation on the part of the Dems and their allies. They can't make the case for why he shouldn't be re-elected, so they've had to resort to this.

By the time an impeachment case is solidified and ready to move forward, the November election will already be in the past tense.

If your first thought is about an election, you just lost the moral high ground.

I would say that if your first thought is that a second impeachment would achieve anything, you've lost all perception of what this election is about, i.e. voting the fucker out.

Win the election. Win the the White House. Win the Senate. Expand the Majority in the House.

If you don't remember. The last time we tried to impeach him it didn't work. Even worse, he declared himself "VINDICATED" and everyone bought it. His approval ratings hit a highmark for his presidency just after.

You could impeach Trump, if you want to make sure he serves another four years.....or 12. Who knows.

Have the Articles in the pocket for after the election.. If he wins, give the Repubs one more time to redeem themselves and to do something for the country. There is no doubt in my mind but that he will be impeached at some point in his second term, if he wins. Why not do it early?

Then use inherent contempt and have him arrested. Ideally, keep him jailed until Inauguration Day.
