Republicans are about to "... awaken a sleeping giant ..."

It seems that Trump/McConnell might get their way and we will have another wingnut on the SCOTUS. And if that happens, I believe it will bring about a permanent end to the Republican Party.

After victory at Pearl Harbor, Japanese Admiral Yamamoto declared, "I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve."

The enormous rage of Democrats, and most sane people in America, will finally, after decades of right wing abuse, be awakened by this outrageous, hypocritical power grab. And that rage will totally destroy today's Republican Party. A new Party will arise from the ashes and that's as it should be. But they'll have to be a party that represents sanity.

At least that's the way I see this playing out.

There are certain lines that can't be crossed, and desecrating RBG by pushing a SC justice through right now would be one of them.

If that were to happen and Biden wins the election and Dems take back the Senate, I see them immediately eliminating the filibuster and then stacking the Supreme Court.

People don’t get it yet. They will take away the right to vote next.

Cramming through another wingnut on the SCOTUS will certainly enrage and energize Democrats, but it will also reinforce to the anti-abortionists why they vote Republican.

The Republican Party will not be permanently ended, but Donald Trump has ended the Republican Party as it had been for generations. He's already transformed it much for the worse, as if it wasn't bad enough already. With a dwindling base dying off and all the never Trumpers like the Lincoln Project and the national security establishment turning against Mango Mussolini, the Republican Party may very well be headed to electoral oblivion if it keeps heading down its current path.

But make no mistake. The never Trumpers on the right are not our ideological partners. Most of them are rock ribbed conservatives in the more traditional sense, temporary allies against a greater menace. Eventually, they will reform the Republican Party.

But that must be preceded by electoral disaster for the Party Of Trump.

We may be a "sleeping giant" but without determined leadership that sleeping giant would not have won World War 2. Time after time our party leaders have wimped out and allowed the Republicans to have their way. That cannot happen this time. No more "happy talk", no more placation, no more "working across the aisles. If our leaders can't stand up and fight for us they'll need to be removed and replaced with someone who will right along with Trump, Barr, McConnell and all the other Republican traitors to the Constitution.
