Trump "saving" Judge Amy Barrett for Ruth Bader Ginsburg seat
As he was deliberating last year over replacing Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, President Trump told confidants he had big plans for Judge Amy Coney Barrett.
"I'm saving her for Ginsburg," Trump said of Barrett, according to three sources familiar with the president's private comments. Trump used that exact line with a number of people, including in a private conversation with an adviser two days before announcing Brett Kavanaugh's nomination.
Barrett is a favorite among conservative activists, many of whom wanted her to take Kennedys spot.
She's young and proudly embraces her Catholic faith. Her past academic writings suggest an openness to overturning Roe v. Wade. Her nomination would throw gas on the culture-war fires, which Trump relishes. But Trump chose to wait.

(5,921 posts)The article speaks of her ideology and her policy views as if they would matter to Trump. They won't. The only thing that matters to Trump is whether she'll serve and protect Trump.

(16,834 posts)I guess she'll bring Q-Anon to the Supreme Court. She could bring a whole new perspective to interpreting the law. She could close her eyes, pray, let her Bible fall open, and place her finger on a verse to decide how to rule on a case.

(1,375 posts)Before Kavanaugh was nominated, there were rumors that she was the alternate nominee. I assume all of the background paperwork is complete, and they could be ready to announce next week. Hell, Trump and Mitch probably already met, and are ready to go.
If its not Barrett I will be very surprised.
I wish that many prominent Democrats (including, I believe Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren) had not stated, in the past year, that they approved plans to expand the Supreme Court. That just gives the Repubs a talking point. I can see them saying that they wouldnt be doing this if the Democrats hadnt threatened the make up of the SC. We obviously dont believe that, but it does give justification to some voters.
