(4,608 posts)both my doctor and my pharmacy tell me every year that there is a "Senior" variant but they are ALWAYS out of it and, "not expecting it in stock any time soon." Therefore I have received/taken the regular, common garden variety flu shot. I'm still living and haven't gotten the flu so I guess the regular one is OK, or perhaps I've just been lucky. It's a bizarre situation though.
Called our doc and they did it in his office the next day, while social distancing.

I haven't had the shot yet, this year. I'm waiting until mid-Octoberish.

(17,431 posts)I don't recall which year, but I did choose not to have the high dose (at a drug store) as it was trivalent and my physician had the quadrivalent variant. I felt a slightly lesser protection against four strains was better than stronger protection against three strains. My MD didn't disagree, but he might have been humoring me.
Any of the available variants are better than none.
