I predict a "gang of moderates" deal after the election - no SCt vote for keeping fillibuster

In the lame duck period after the election, I can easily see Lindsey Graham (who won't have to worry about re-election), Romney, Grassley, Murkowski and Collins agreeing with Manchin, Sinema and a few other Dems who have come out against getting rid of the fillibuster in the past that the Republicans will vote against the Supreme Court nominee, and the Dems agreeing in exchange that they won't get rid of the fillibuster.

Anyone agree/disagree?

Because the Republicans will have no motivation to make such a deal – since they know the DINOs you mention will vote to preserve the filibuster anyway.

Manchin and Sinema aren't exactly in tune with the Dems on this board if you haven't noticed.

They are the party of Trump. Trump wants this he will get this. Nothing else matters to GOPers anymore. What does the fascist leader want? Ok give it to him.

That being said I really hope I am wrong. I would break out the good whiskey if what you said happens.

Anyways the deal if any should be not expanding the court. The fillibuster needs to go. Period.

I do not view that as good outcome. People forgetting the fact conservatives have 5-4 majority now. What difference does 6-3 make? Roberts will always vote on their side on the big stuff.

Moderation crap needs to end. GOP would love to do "moderation" on their way out. If they lose power Dems should get rid filibuster and remake the courts.

There are certainly things he cannot be trusted on (e.g. voting rights) but he also saved the ACA and I believe he would not overturn Roe (he is fundamentally a cautious jurist). He is also sensitive to his legacy. You can be sure an RBG replacement would be more in the mold of Thomas/Alito. It would have dire consequences. Make no mistake.

Best case scenario, we win AZ and three Republicans make that deal.

Murkowski MAYBE Romney but then who else?

You can't trust Collins. Or Graham.

MAYBE one of the retirees.

But that's like two layers of maybe.

Keeping the filibuster ensures 4 years without any serious legislation getting passed. In our current polarized political environment you couldn't 60 Senate votes on anything that really matters.
