"Her favorite color" makes more sense.

(66,293 posts)2. During graduation ceremonies for professional degrees such as law, medicine, education, divinity,
etc., each graduate wears a shawl over their gown with the color representing the profession they're about to enter.
The color for criminal justice is Midnight Blue.
BTW, the color for medicine is green.
Education is light blue.
Divinity is gold, and so on...

Still a stretch. "Lit up in the color of those who major in criminal justice" doesn't have the same ring. And, of course, law is purple.
Associating it with the red/blue of republican/democrat would make some sense in a "justice" context... but would be overtly political and possibly illegal.
