He is sure there will be no consequences to what he does....Go somewhere else. Why?
,,2 Reasons...
A...Marcus's wealth is in the stock he owns from Home Depot
....Most Important.
B:.Marcus is sure that supporting Donald Trump will have no effect on his wealth or
..........or his resources. He gives away a lot of his money to many causes...but his attitude is similar
to Donald Trump...and it is....."I can do anything I want, with NO COSEQUENCES"
. Here a link to that story. Posted by BlueWavePsych

(38,420 posts)..The founder supports Trump with lots of money. I am against his investment being worth more..
It should be worth less..

(38,420 posts)some kind. We can shop elsewhere. We don't have to shop at a company he founded and got
the money to support Trump from. (even if he sold it)

(18,620 posts)because if you check places like opensecrets.org you will find their PAC donations run about 70-30 favoring Republicans. The Home Depot PAC is closer to 55-45.
It is true the founder of HD is a huge Republican supporter with his money going about 99% Republican. What isn't true is that he still owns HD. A simple Wikipedia search will confirm he retired in 2002.

(11,560 posts)Many corporations and retail outlets donate more to Republicans than Democrats. They go with who is currently in power or who they think will be in power. Its a circle-elect more Democrats and more corporations will increase donations to Dems.

(3,395 posts)The help at Lowes & Ace Hardware are so much friendlier & knowledgeable.
Ace is slightly more expensive, but worth it.

(12,369 posts)I've always had good interactions with HD employees, get me into a dock as soon as possible and get me unloaded quickly, and offer the use of their facilities. IE, lunchroom, employee bathrooms, etc.

(38,420 posts)I suspect he does. Types like this always keep some of their investment in money making companies.
I will look it up.

(19,473 posts)I'm sure he also has large investments in many other companies, and that many other people have investements in Home Depot. That tells us nothing.

Hope we get to cross paths in person again someday in the future. It probably won't be soon, alas.

(25,849 posts)This is going to go on far, far longer than people expect. Or could have anticipated in their worst imaginings back when this first started.
While I very much miss my travels, especially my many science fiction things, I am much better off than many people, and I know that.

When Bernie Marcus announced in 2019 that he would financially support the Donald Trump 2020 presidential campaign, it triggered calls for a boycott of Home Depot, even though Marcus was no longer with the company. In a June 2019 interview," Marcus said most of his wealth is in Home Depot stock."

(34,066 posts)Home Depot - the reverse is not necessarily true.
Home Depot is a publically traded company - and is owned by anyone who owns stock. I would not be surprised to find that I own shares of Home Depot. (I own one individual stock - but I own several mutual funds, which might well hold Home Depot stock. I screen my mutual funds for investments in tobacco, guns, and war - but not home improvement).
His net worth is estimated at 6.2 billion. Home Depot's stock is valued at approximately 302 billion (275.19 (today's price) x 1.097 billion (estimated outstanding shares). So if 100% of his net worth is invested in Home Depot stock, he would own a whopping 2% of the company.
Boycotting Home Depot a decade ago when he was CEO is one thing - Home Depot could fire him in response to the boycott.
Boycotting Home Depot for something it can't fix (the reality that he still owns shares of its publically traded stock) is pointless - and hurts those who who own the other 98% of the company, not to mention the employees who might be laid off if the boycott is successful.

(38,420 posts)some of his wealth to Donald Trump...Think about this,
What would we think about Bill Gates if he gave lots of his money to help Donald Trump's reelection?
What would happen to Gate's reputation and image of his foundation?
How would people feel about Bill Gates?
