I have been reading with interest on whether Biden should go high or low in the debates.

Before I state my opinion on this, let me be clear that I realize that VP Biden and his team are more than capable of developing a plan to respond to Trump's attacks during the debate, and I have confidence they will execute that plan to perfection. So what I am posting here is more of a thought exercise on how I would handle Trump.

VP Biden needs to show that he can handle Trump's insults. He needs to do it in a way that does not diminish public perception that he can handle the role of the presidency in a mature manner (he needs to be the polar opposite of Trump). However, that does not mean he needs to ignore the insults. He needs to address them directly, harshly, ruthlessly and without apology. To some, this means "going low", but there are ways of "going low" with dignity and grace, WITHOUT BEING CHILDISH. And that is the key.

Some examples:

The first time VP Biden is called a name, I envision him deploying his strongest weapon; that being his charm and killer smile.

With a genuine ear to ear smile..."Sleepy Joe"? Throws his head back in laughter. Well, I had intended on referring to you as Mr. President, but I do not give respect unless it is earned. So unfortunately, and against my nature, you shall be referred to by me as either "Trump" or "Donald". Yes, Donald seems to be the better fit. So tell me, Donald, tell the American people why you resort to name calling of virtually everyone who does not agree with you? Were you bullied as a child? Were you made fun of? Perhaps your family embarrassed you in some way? Perhaps you felt that you were not good enough?

When Trump starts his lies about the vaccine...

Please explain to the American people why you believe that shortened clinical trials on a rushed vaccine make for a safer vaccine. Why did you at one point endlessly state that the vaccine could very likely be deployed conveniently prior to election day? Would that benefit the American people, or would it benefit you? I say you know nothing at all about vaccine development, and that well over 200,000 deaths, most of which were directly caused by your lack of a national response, are not enough for you. A random person off the street would have handled the response better than you. In fact, the response would have been handled better if you were not involved in in this at all. Why did you let 40,000 people from China into this country after your self-hyped solution of "shutting down entry of people from China"? Why did you say that the number of cases was going to go from 15 to 0? It looks like you were off a bit on your estimate, since we now have over 200,000 deaths in this country, with no end in sight after 7 months. 200,000 souls, 200,000 families, for what, Donald? So the death count wouldn't make YOU look bad? Maybe you should have induced some kind of light into your own body to perform a cleansing of sorts. Do you understand what I am referring to here, Donald, or should I make it simpler for you to understand?

When Trump goes after his son:

Biden should show some righteous anger: my son did nothing wrong. Nothing illegal. Nothing immoral, nothing at all wrong. You should be careful of slinging crap, especially when your own son was proven to have raided a fund established to help children with cancer. Gimme a freakin' break, Donald.

When Trump mentions Obamacare:

Obamacare has saved the lives of more people than your pandemic response has killed, and that's saying a mouthful, Mr. Two Weeks. When is your healthcare plan coming out, Mr. Two Weeks?

And most importantly, VP Biden needs to HAMMER Social Security:

We know that the Republicans have been trying to take away, LITERALLY ABOLISH, Social Security for years. Looking sternly into the camera...I want the American people, right now, to listen to me very closely, and understand what I am about to tell you. I am going to explain to you what will happen if Donald's proclamation that he will eliminate payroll taxes next year comes to fruition. I am going to explain to you exactly what that means...

Just some of my thoughts here, nothing more than that.

Hillary tried to warn of probable future events.

VP Biden will be stating events that have happened already.

Trump has a history now.

Hillary was proven to be 100% correct.

Also, if Trump tries to make claims about how many jobs he's created, Biden needs to give both actual numbers of jobs lost, and then point out that all of his and Ivanka's clothing, shoes, caps, etc. are made in China. Not the U.S.A.

Biden just needs to come off as decent, reasonable, and put forth his ideas to help the American people. People in general don't dislike him, so he has that going for him--let the Idiot Clown beclown himself as usual. His act is tiresome as fuck.

better off under Trump.

VP Biden needs to show a comparison, and he needs to instill a healthy respect of what the loss of Social Security really means.

Full of facts, responses, comebacks and jokes. I don’t want him to sweat or get red faced. Hope he doesn’t get tongue tied. If he does I forgive him

I hope they have to stand in one place for the first debate.

Is how Joe should respond to name calling. It’s what mothers taught kids who were taunted with name-calling years ago. Might cause a few chuckles among those who remember that such tactics say more about the character of namer than the named. A chance to defuse the the moment, bring perspective and if appropriate in the context of the issue, allow a pivot to Trumps record of verbal abuse (think “losers”), or his failure to properly call out white nationalists (think “good people on both sides”)
